The Philippine Red Cross conferred The Most Outstanding Humanitarian Award to Newport World Resorts in recognition of its efforts in bolstering the country's response against COVID-19.
The prestigious recognition underscores Newport World Resorts' contributions, which have been cited as “instrumental in strengthening the public health response, enabling the Philippine Red Cross to provide vital and life-saving assistance to those most in need.” Since the onset of pandemic in 2020, Newport World Resorts has donated over Php 125 million in assistance to hospitals and local government units in their battle against COVID-19.
Among its notable initiatives at the time was the online streaming event for Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical in partnership with ABS-CBN. The award-winning musical, adapted for an online audience, successfully raised Php 12 million for families impoverished by the global health crisis. Almost 7 million people tuned in to the stream to at least be able to experience live theater during the difficult period of varying community quarantine levels.
Recognizing the urgent public health needs, Newport World Resorts launched its flagship vaccination program #UnaBakuna that gave free and accessible vaccines for guests and employees including their families and friends. In addition, Newport World Resorts partnered with the local government of Pasay City, generously providing venues and facilities for vaccination drives.
Amidst restriction on in-person events, Newport World Resorts also leveraged creative solutions to resume live entertainment for Filipino artists. The L.O.V.E. Project (Live On-request Virtual Entertainment) allowed artists to showcase their talents virtually, ensuring a source of income while keeping the entertainment industry going.
Over the years, Newport World Resorts remains steadfast to its commitment to sustainability and nation-building through various programs and initiatives. The receipt of The Most Outstanding Humanitarian Award highlighted the company’s exemplary corporate citizenship, showing that businesses can play a crucial role in supporting national initiatives, especially in challenging times.
